The 82-time PGA Tour winner had to spend a lot of his time away from golf. But he didn’t care much about it because, thanks to his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, he got to spend that time with his children.

In the accident, the golf legend suffered many serious injuries, including to his right leg and ankle. As difficult as the time was for the golf community, it was even harder for Woods’ family. Due to the extent of the injuries, Tiger spent a lot of time in the hospital. His recovery that followed was no walk in the park either.

Around six weeks after the accident, Woods was back home. And since he could not go around to meet his kids, his ex-wife brought them to him. Sources close to Woods said, “A lot of that is because of Elin, who is just amazing. She’s been incredible since the crash.”

Woods spent the majority of his free time with his kids and his girlfriend, Erica Herman. And the golf pro owed it all to his ex-wife. “She has bent over backwards to make sure that he can see the kids while he recovers from his injuries,” said the sources. Tiger spent “almost every day” of his recovery with his family.

Woods and Elin’s relationship after their divorce

In 2015, Woods sat down with Lorne Rubenstein from Time, where he spoke of his current relationship with his ex-wife. Despite their drama-filled divorce, the couple is now closer than ever. “She’s one of my best friends,” said Woods, and then added, “We’re able to pick up the phone, and we talk to each other all the time.”

The 15-time major winner expressed his regret at not being more honest and upfront with Elin sooner, saying, “We both know that the most important things in our lives are our kids.” I wish I would have known that back then.” But he was grateful now to have this close friendship with her.
