Moreover, it resulted in him winning numerous tournaments later, including 4 of his majors.

However, Nicklaus once revealed that he almost gave up on his career at a point. And hadn’t it been for his kids, he might have stopped at 14 major tournament wins. In an interview with the reporters before his 80th birthday, Nicklaus opened up about his kids’ role in getting him back on the field.
“We were out there skiing and I was talking about not playing much golf the next year,” Nicklaus said. But his kids were not ready to see their dad away from his beloved sport. “What are you doing? You can still beat everybody out there. You need to keep playing. You’ll love it,” he recalled what his kids said to him.

“They talked me into going back and playing. So I won four more majors and a few more tournaments and had a great time,” Nicklaus stated. But despite playing some of the best tournaments the golf world had witnessed, Nicklaus was able to spend enough time with his family. Unlike many famous athletes, he managed to make time to see his kids grow up. After all, as he always says, a person’s family is the most important thing to him.
