Golf might seem like a pretty easy sport to many fans across the world. But the fact remains that it can be really stressful at times for players both physically and mentally. Years of practice have given most athletes several ways to deal with the physical stress involved. However, numerous of them are still struggling with the mental aspect of it. And to help those golfers, and even not-athletes who are simply fans of the sport, Rory McIlroy along with Jessica Korda and Mariah Stackhouse have partnered with Optum to make a real difference.

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic took over, people have become certainly more aware of the term ‘mental health’. While most of us used to be worried about how we look and feel physically, the entire lockdown situation gave us a reality check about other issues involving how we feel on the inside. And that has been the case with everyone, including professional athletes.

Numerous famous players and influencers are talking about how important it is to keep one’s mental health in check. And to promote the idea, PGA Tour professional Rory McIlroy and LPGA Tour stars, Jessica Korda and Mariah Stackhouse have joined Optum in the noble cause.

The healthcare giant partnered with the Players Championship and even posted a video on Instagram. The video features McIlroy, Korda, and Stackhouse talking about the importance of mental wellness. All three are currently serving as brand ambassadors for the company and its cause.

“Everyone feels overwhelmed, everyone has anxiety. We just need to find the tools that work best for ourselves to deal with that… it’s just validating those feelings. You’re not the only one”, Korda said in the video. While Stackhouse added, “I would say the conversation about real mental health in sports has…just expanded in ways I’ve never seen coming back in middle school or high school”.

Even Rory McIlroy poured his heart out about his thoughts on the value of good mental health“There’s always gonna be times, no matter what you do in life, where you have your doubts, and that’s where you have to turn to others to look for support. That’s more than okay actually. It’s a great thing to do!”, he said. “I’ve been very lucky over the course of my career, and over the course of my life to have had that support system around me.”

All three athletes, along with several other tour legends, serve as motivators and inspirations for the upcoming generations of golfers. With numerous records in their names, these professionals are living examples of how a healthy mind can make a difference.
