Josh Allen and Phil Mickelson took over the internet when the NFL star dressed up as the PGA Tour icon for Halloween. Mickelson was in awe of Allen’s costume, along with all the fans who shared images and videos online. However, during a press conference after the Buffalo Bills’ 26-11 win over the Miami Dolphins, while dressed as Mickelson, Allen revealed why exactly Mickelson inspires him.

Allen is a 25-year-old quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, who just started his professional career in 2018. However, Mickelson, 51, has been playing golf professionally since 1992. Hence, Mickelson has years of experience with him, which seems to have helped Allen recently. Let’s take a detailed look at what the Bills QB had to say about Mickelson.

How did Phil Mickelson help NFL star Josh Allen?

According to the Wyoming product, he and the Bills had a chance to interact with Mickelson earlier this year. “He talked about finding kind of like your zen. Finding your calm,” Allen said, revealing that this was during the preseason. Allen admitted that he does play well when he is angry or frustrated, which ultimately causes issues. So in the second half, they ended up taking Mickelson’s advice.

They interacted with Mickelson back during the training camp, meeting them right after he won the PGA Championship. “It was right after he won the PGA and he was right there with his trophy and the golf cart,” Allen said. “He was on the golf course, and he took about 30 minutes to talk to the team and it was really cool.”

He even spoke about what he learned. “I think it’s just self-knowledge, understanding who you are,” Allen explained. “I know I don’t play well when I’m frustrated, and again, hearing that from a Hall of Fame golfer, one of the best of all time, to say that type of thing, that resonated well with me, because that’s exactly kind of how I feel, too,” he added.
