World no 1, Scottie Scheffler, is among the few lucky players who made it in the FedEx Cup top 70 rankings. And as a result, he is playing this week at the St Jude Championship. Meanwhile, he is also harboring big dreams for the prestigious Ryder Cup and has his mind set up only and only on winning.

But apart from golf, Scheffler also has a deep love for football and makes a point to attend at least his Alma mater’s football event. Before this week’s heroics at St Jude’s, he spills the beans on his favorite football team and his hopes for the Ryder Cup.

Scottie Scheffler adamant to bring the Ryder Cup home

Ahead of his competition this week, Scheffler gave an exclusive interview to ESPN’s program SportsCenter, where he was asked a bunch of questions. The reporter asked Scheffler to comment Brooks Koepka?s stance about the Ryder Cup that it mattered what country you were playing for, and not the league.

The 2022 Masters winner replied, “My take has always been that I wanna go there and win the Ryder Cup.” And apart from that Scheffler doesn’t really care about what Tour his players are currently playing for. He further explained his big plans for the coveted cup and his desire to revive an old victory.

“I just want to bring the best 12 guys that would make up a great team environment for us to go over there and do something that hasn’t been done in 30 years.” His stance and his motto for this year’s event is “Beat the European and bring the Cup back home”.

However, golf is not the solo favorite sport of the New Jersey-born golfer. He also has an immense interest in football and roots for his former school, the University of Texas football team.

The Texas team is going to play in Alabama on 9th Sept. The interviewer asked Scheffler if he would be attending that match. Scheffler responded that on that day they were doing a scouting trip for Ryder Cup, so he won’t be able to make it. But he expressed the hope that his favorite team would win this year. The interviewer further asked him if he was also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Scheffler said that being a Dallas fan is like being a PGA Tour pro. He said, “I am probably more of a Cowboy fan than I am of a Longhorn”. He pulled their leg by saying that every year they hope to win and every year they lose.

Scheffler will be missing his favorite team’s event as he is fully focused on the upcoming Ryder Cup and does not want to take off his concentration away from that. Hopefully, his attention will help him at the event. But before that, he must prove his capabilities at the St Jude Championship this week.
