Controversy seems to follow Paige Spiranac wherever she goes. While of course this comes with the territory of her being the biggest social media influencer in the golf world, this time’s controversy was bigger than most. The reason? It included the golf queen dredging in some big names, like Tom Brady and Cristiano Ronaldo!
The controversy first sparked when Spiranac took to Twitter (now X) to fire back at people who claimed female athletes like herself were “over-sexualizing” themselves and, through it, “taking women back.” Lashing out at them, the golf beauty stated that there was a very clear prejudice against women and double standards in play when it came to the matter.
Saying men too sexulized themselves “for a monetary gain,” the ex-pro golfer began citing examples and showing pictures where the likes of Tom Brady, Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, David Beckham, and even the Olympian legend Michael Phelps were posing shirtless or in just underwear! Going viral within minutes, the video drew its own set of criticism, forcing the blonde model to once again address the issue—this time, however, defending her side—as she got called out for defaming them!
Paige Spiranac just wants equality
Talking on her podcast, ‘Playing a Round with Paige Renee’, just days after her Twitter rant, Maxim 2022’s Sexiest Woman Alive claimed that fans were offended by what she said in the controversial video. According to her, people were taking shots at her, saying she (of all people) had no right to point out that male athletes too used their bodies for marketing.
Mentioning Brady, Beckham, and even Rory McIlroy this time, Spiranac explained that what they did was no different from what she and the other female athletes did. “They’re literally in their underwear, taking pictures, and they’re posting them and making money off of them,” she stated boldly.
She further explained that she was not demeaning those male athletes’ decisions but just wanted the rest of the world to treat women exactly how they would treat men for such a move.
“People were so upset, they missed the entire point.”Undoubtedly, the gorgeous golfer was upset, but more than that, perhaps dissatisfied, was that in her 11-minute rant for equality too, fans had failed to grasp the message and instead called her out. While it may be one of the hazards of being Paige Spiranac, it sure doesn’t make it easier.
