“There was a point in time, I’m not kidding, where I just felt like I wanted to leave the game,” DeChambeau said. After everything that he had gone through, it looked like the talented golfer was going to give up on golf. However, DeChambeau was fortunate to have the guidance of well-wishers around him, which included The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise’s star, Chris Pratt.

“Chris Pratt told me, ‘Look, when I’m doing a movie and people are saying the movie’s terrible and I’m not a good actor, that doesn’t define me,’” DeChambeau quoted Pratt’s words. He also expressed his admiration for the actor and said, “I respect him, respect his opinion. He’s got a lot of great life advice from things he’s been through — some troubling times.”

Furthermore, the 8-time PGA event winner was grateful to the ‘Parks and Recreation’ star for sharing his experience. The son-in-law of the famous Arnold Schwarzenegger, Pratt used a golf analogy to explain his terms for DeChambeau, which eventually proved fruitful.

“He told me when I’m out on the golf course, people are going to define you and relate you to the golf…What really defines you is the person you are outside the game of golf. You’ve got to look at it as an opportunity to show people who you truly are,” the golfer concluded.

Following the actor’s wise words, DeChambeau turned down the negativity and got back to playing the game. He remains an active player, but is no longer on the PGA Tour, having recently joined the LIV Golf Series.
