Dustin Johnson has made a name for himself as one of the best LIV golfers on the league. Johnson triumphed at Boston in his first season after transferring to the new league. However, the 38-year-old’s second season did not turn out as he had hoped. More specifically, 2023 has not been kind to the two-time major champion. The terrible phase was somewhat brought on by his back injury in February.
Johnson, though, has regained his composure and displayed his magic at the just-completed LIV Golf Tulsa. The American professional won his second championship in the league sponsored by Saudi Arabia just before the 2023 PGA Championship. Days later, Oak Hills Country Club is the center of the golf world. Even though DJ is already in the headlines due to his recent win, his press conference from the PGA Championship draws interest.

Dustin Johnson talks about his back ailment
DJ needed an extra hole at Tulsa to win his second title on LIV Golf. This is his first win since winning in Boston last year. With this victory, Johnson joins Talor Gooch and Brooks Koepka as the only golfers to win twice in LIV’s first 14 events. Now, just a few hours before the start of the second major of the year, DJ has made headlines due to his revelation of the reason behind his back injury.
In the press conference, Johnson was asked a few questions regarding his injury. First, he was asked about what happened with his back. The 38-year-old answered this query by saying, “I just pulled a muscle in my lower back.” After that, the reporter asked the LIV golfer about the reason behind the looming back problem. The reporter jokingly asked, “Swinging a club or lifting up a kid?”
DJ answered by awkwardly tilting his head from one side to another and saying, “Yeah, lifting up a kid, just a bigger kid (laughter).” And the whole press conference room broke out into laughter.
The LIV golf star’s words clearly hint at an incident with his wife, Paulina Gretzky. The whole press room interpreted “just a bigger kid” as his wife. Whether it is true or not, DJ’s words clearly indicate so.

Dustin Johnson’s win at the LIV Golf Tulsa
Since the start of this year, the 38-year-old has not been the player he once was. Johnson did not enter the competition as one of the favorites; however, he was able to find his touch. The American pro led the leaderboard after 36 holes at 14-under. Moreover, on Sunday, his 3-under 67 after he birdied his final hole in regulation was good enough to ensure him a playoff at 17-under.

The two-time major champion went into a playoff with Cameron Smith and Branden Grace. DJ showed his magic right there. Johnson birdied the par-4 18th to clinch his title at Cedar Ridge Country Club. While this win surely needed an extra hole, the 38-year-old was good enough to register his first win in 2023. This surely makes him a hot prospect going into the PGA Championship.
