The 29-year-old has been linked with Manchester City and Arsenal. But Brendan Rodgers is keen to continue his summer recruitment at Anfield and challenge his counterparts.

Gourcuff will be a good asset to the Reds and can provide good supplies for fellow attacking midfielders- Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

Not only has the naturally gifted Gourcuff earned the respect of Europe for his ability to just go for the goal, but he also brings strength to the midfield backline. Though the players progress is very often hindered due to injuries, the Reds might use him to have him as an potion for the domestic competitions and provide more depth to their team. He wasn’t much constructive in his 17 appearances in the Ligue 1 and this might be the reason why he wasn’t offered a contract extension by Lyon.

Gourcuff is a former winner of the Ligue 1 Player of the Year Award, in December 2009 and was also named the French Player of the Year in the same year. The midfielder then joined Olympique Lyonnais on a 5-year contract. Since joining the national team, he has been put into the playmaker role which was vacated and never filled following the retirement of Zidane in 2006.
