One of the most-awaited games of 2021 is the PlayStation 5 exclusive Gran Turismo 7. The “real driving simulator” franchise last came out with a game back in 2017. The reception around GT Sport was not up to the level as it was for the initial titles. However, in a recent interview in the vintage car-focused magazine, Octane Japan, the CEO of Polyphony Digital, the studio behind the Gran Turismo franchise, had exciting news.

CEO Kazunori Yamauchi shed some more light on the very less talked about title. Even with a 2021 launch, fans do not have a lot to go on about GT7. All they know is they didn’t like how Gran Turismo Sport played out. Therefore, fans have been asking for Polyphony to revert to the concept behind the first four games in the GT series.

Gran Turismo 7 returns to the ‘Royal Purpose’

The highlight of the interview was Kazunori Yamauchi making a promise to GT fans. As per his promise, GT7 plans to revisit the original four games from the franchise and draw inspiration from them. The studio will not try to go a different direction with GT7. Instead, the CEO said GT7 will “return to the royal purpose” of the original four Gran Turismo games.

It is still uncertain what exactly this ‘royal purpose’ is, however it seems more like a feeling and experience than the mechanics. Therefore, long-time fans would clearly know what is in store for them.
