Tsitsipas had a brilliant season in 2019. He won three titles on the Tour but he could have easily won more. He lost many semi finals and finals throughout last year. But the key here is that he was there. Consistently. His biggest reward came at the end of the season with the ATP Tour Final title.
The Greek did have his share of dips and disappointments, but at the age of 22, time is his friend. He will learn and grow, he has learned and grown. And he has dreams of carving his name down in the history of tennis.

In a promotional video for the Rotterdam event, the Dutch presenter asked if he was going to win Rotterdam to which Tsitsipas gave an emphatic yes. Asked about the goals for the rest of the season, Tsitsipas spoke like a champion.

“Well the plan is also Grand Slam title. That’s the main plan. It’s a long way to get there, but it’s something that I’m aiming for.”

At this point the presenter chimes in noting Stefanos is already a world champion.
“Yeah that’s why it. It’s also a reason. The Nitto Finals. You could call it a mini Grand Slam. So why not?”
Well said Stefanos!

He knows a Grand Slam is the next step up and he wants it. It also looks like he knows it won’t come easy.
But CAN he win a Major?
That remains to be seen. It is hard to even imagine the Big Three losing a Grand Slam. You wouldn’t put it past them to keep the four Majors within their hallowed group. Such is their greatness.

But yeah, it is going to happen someday. And Tsitsipas has as good a chance as any. Maybe even more of a chance than most. Still have your doubts? Maybe this will change your mind. This young player beat all members of the Big Three last year. And how.
First came the scalp of Roger Federer. Australian Open, round of 16, two single-handed backhanders facing off. Tsitsipas truly grabbed the attention of the world by outclassing the great Roger. He went on to lose to a certain Rafael Nadal in the semi finals.
Tsitsipas beat Federer a second time in the season at the Rome Masters. And a third time at the Tour Finals. Not bad against one of the all-time greats, eh?

Stefanos would also get his revenge on Nadal. No, he did not beat Nadal in just any ordinary match. He beat Nadal on clay, in his own country. Facing one another in the semi finals once again, Tsitsipas showed great character, and skill, to beat Rafa in the Madrid Masters. He would lose in the final of Madrid Masters to…you guessed it! Novak Djokovic.
The next time he faced the Serb, he would exact his revenge. During the Asian swing of the season, he came up against Djokovic at the Shanghai Open. Having gone down a set, Stefanos staged a wonderful comeback to win the match.

He had defeated all three legends in a season at just 21-years of age. Yes he did lose to them a fair few times throughout the year as well. But to be able to push them and give himself a chance is a promising sign. A sign of things to come I do not doubt.

I will not stick my neck out and say this is the year that Djokovic and Nadal both will lose out on a slam. But I will say when it does happen, I wouldn’t be a least bit surprised if it is Stefanos Tsitsipas who does it.
