Just as the world thought it had got an edge over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the effects of the gruesome virus are still looming large. Yesterday, it was announced that the French Open 2021 would be delayed by a week due to the resurgence and rising number of positive cases.

In less than 24 hours, there is now another update with regard to the tennis calendar year. The organizers have decided to reduce the grass-court season by a week. Therefore, events such as Halle and the Queen’s Club, which take place prior to Wimbledon, could be forced into cancelation.?

The French Open 2021 has been postponed by a week

The postponement of the French Open in the current season means that the second Grand Slam title of this year has been pushed forward by a week to May 30 and will conclude on June 13. This means that the Halle and Queen’s Club events will begin the day after the French Open is completed.

For players wishing to compete in both events, this will be a tough situation to deal with. Therefore, a decision will need to be made regarding the upcoming events post-Roland Garros since Wimbledon will be played out as stated earlier, from June 28 till July 11. However, the qualifying rounds will take place from June 21 onwards.

Wimbledon 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic

In the previous season, organizers of the Wimbledon Championships decided to cancel the event in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, the French Open was postponed and was conducted as the final Grand Slam event of the year. It was held a week after the US Open.?

The effects of the ongoing pandemic still continue to hamper surroundings. At the beginning of the season, the officials at the Australian Open decided to delay the event to make all the appropriate arrangements, taking human safety into consideration.?
