Justin Gaethje created history at UFC 249 when he snapped the 12-fight win streak of Tony Ferguson. He is now the Interim UFC Lightweight Champion, next in line to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title. However, Conor McGregor believes that he would be a much better matchup for Gaethje.

The Notorious One took to Twitter in a callout to Gaethje.

While Justin wants nothing other than his title shot for his next fight, he does have some strong views about Conor’s call-out. In an interview with ESPN’s Bret Okamoto, he said,

“I Tweeted that he [Conor] is losing his clout. I don’t mean [that] in general, like with the general public. But with fighters, man? This guy, he’s losing so much respect in the game, [about] which he probably doesn’t care. But to someone like me, and even him, I would assume that that matters a little bit.”

Justin Gaethje says he chooses not to fight Conor McGregor.

Carrying on with the interview, Gaethje said,

“He doesn’t hold the cards right now! I put myself in a great position! I asked for a say in my destiny, and I went out there. And I showed up. I’m in a spot where I can pick between Khabib and Conor. If I wanna fight Conor, I can fight Conor. Believe me. Of course, why wouldn’t Dana put [that fight] together? But that’s not the fight I want! His only [play] is he’s ‘Mr. Red Panty-Night’. Not everybody’s a greedy motherf**ker like him. I think, for one, whenever I beat Khabib and then I beat Conor, in these times, under this microscope, [that is] legendary.”

True enough, The Highlight’s win over Ferguson has granted him a top position in the Lightweight Division. However, the challenges that he is yet to face are quite daunting. For starters, Khabib Nurmagomedov remains unbeaten to date. Moreover, Gaethje prefers fighting the stand-up game, and Conor is one of the most commendable strikers out there.
