Former World No.3 Grigor Dimitrov is battling with blisters on his right hand ahead of the Australian Open 2020. However, what special methods is the Bulgarian using to remove them in order to be fit for the opening Grand Slam of the season?

Dimitrov admitted to having blisters on his playing arm after his match at the Kooyong Classic exhibition. He completed his preparations for the Australian Open, losing to Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 2-6 at the Kooyong Classic.

“I’ve had a little bit of a sore hand”: Grigor Dimitrov

The 28-year-old explained that he sleeps with a special glove to help his wound repair in time for next week. He also hopes to be 100 percent ready to play in Melbourne.

“The past few days I’ve been sleeping with a glove that keeps my hand moist at all times so you kind of soak it in and then every morning I can shave it off from it a little bit. It is how it is,” Dimitrov said.

He further added: “I’ve got to take care of my blisters a little bit, I’ve had a little bit of a sore hand for the last two or three days. I had a day off in between matches at Kooyong so I’m just trying to get that sorted. But other than that, I’m ready.”

Dimitrov also hopes that the blister heals in the next couple of days. He suggested that he has been taking good care of it, but hopefully, he is going to be 100 percent right.

Dimitrov’s Australian Open 2020

Dimitrov will open up against Juan Ignacio Londero at the Australian Open. He could face an uphill task against the next-gen star Denis Shapovalov in the third round. If victorious, he can face Roger Federer in the fourth round.

The world No. 18 marked his best performance at the Australian Open in 2017, reaching the semi-final. He has also made two quarter-final appearances in Melbourne. Last year, Frances Tiafoe ended Dimitrov’s run at the first major tournament of the season in the fourth round.
