This is pretty much similar to the 2018 race when both the Haas cars retired following pit stop mistakes. The Australian Grand Prix technically originated in 1953 at the Albert Park Circuit, and Doug Whiteford took the win. However, it was a non-championship race, and the Australian Grand Prix was not integrated until 1985 in Adelaide. Williams driver Keke Rosberg became the first Australian Grand Prix winner in the F1 championship.

The first F1 championship winner at Albert Park was Damon Hill in 1996, again for Williams F1. Since then, Formula One has been a regular visitor in Melbourne. It is also worth mentioning that the Albert Park circuit has been the season-opening race, 21 times out of 24 races.

The 2021 event was originally scheduled to open the season in March but has been moved to November due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The circuit utilizes parts of the public roads surrounding the Albert Park Lake. The road sections were rebuilt ahead of the 1996 race to ensure consistency and smoothness. This is where the Albert Park circuit differs from other street-going circuits.

The track itself appears fast and relatively easy to drive. The drivers have even praised the circuit for being easy to learn and achieve competitive times. However, the flat terrain around the lake, coupled with a track design that features few true straights, means that the track is not conducive to overtaking.

Each year, most of the motorsport infrastructure is constructed two months ahead of the Grand Prix weekend. Following that, they are removed within six weeks.

The land around the circuit has restricted access during that entire period. However, there usually is some amount of dissent from local residents. Nevertheless, the event is reasonably popular in Melbourne and Australia.

The Haas F1 team is one of the newer kids on the block. They joined Formula One in 2016 with Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez as their drivers.

Since they are one of the newer teams, there is no real history to speak of. However, the team rose from the ashes of a failed bid to get a US F1 team in 2010. It bears no relation to the Haas Lola team of the 1985-86 season.

When Marussia collapsed in 2014, Haas bought their factory to use as a base of operations.

However, they were unlucky to have pitstop mishaps in the opening races squander their chances. Later on, rivals, Renault got stronger and more consistent. In the end, they had to settle for 5th in the championship.

It is also interesting to note that the team were involved in a controversy regarding their partnership with Ferrari. Many teams were under the impression that they had a significant advantage. It didn't help matters when claims were made that their 2018 car mostly resembled the Ferrari's 2017 model.

French F1 driver, Romain Grosjean has had two stints in Formula One. He made his debut in 2009 for Renault after the Crashgate controversy saw <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_Piquet_Jr.">Nelson Piquet Jr</a> lose his seat. Going up against a driver of <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/fernando-alonso/">Fernando Alonso</a>'s calibre could not be easy and his statistics were underwhelming.

After a disappointing run in 2009, his fortunes changed for the better from 2012 onwards. A maiden point-scoring finish in China was followed by a maiden podium in Bahrain. Grosjean went on to take two mode podiums in Canada and Hungary.

However, he earned himself a reputation for being a 'first lap nutcase', as Mark Webber put it. The 2012 Belgian GP was proof of the pudding when he instigated a massive pile-up. As a result he was slapped with a one-race ban.

2013 was a slightly better season as the Frenchman racked up six podiums that year. Since then, he has only mustered one more podium, at the 2015 Belgian GP with 3rd place.

After joining Haas, he has had up and down results and finished the championship in 13th twice. In 2018, he ended the season in 14th place. It was a shame because Haas had demonstrated that they had a strong car.

However, silly mistakes and other teams stepping up their game, cost Haas dearly.A year later, Haas F1 had not moved up the order, and their drivers' performances did not help.
