“Grown From Strength to Strength”: Roger Federer Reflects on His Entrepreneurship Journey

Recently, Swiss athletic footwear brand On launched its second edition in the Roger Federer franchise. In 2019, Federer had invested in the sneaker company and had released his first sneaker named – The Roger Federer Centre Court. The debut sneaker was minimalistic in design and was the brand’s first tennis-inspired style.

In October this year, a new sneaker ‘Roger Federer Clubhouse’ was launched with his purpose of targeting the youth. Recently, the 20-time Grand Slam champion participated in the On running Chinese Taobao Tmall live event to introduce a special edition for the “Double11” shopping event.

The host asked Federer about his experience as a new member of the On team and the way he joined the project.

“Very naturally, to be honest. I have seen On grow here in Switzerland in the last ten years. They have grown from strength to strength. Me obviously being coming from sports, I have seen this. I have seen more friends and family wearing their shoes.” said Federer.

The Swiss maestro revealed that he met the people behind the brand a couple of years back and they instantly hit it off. The former World No.1 admitted that he wanted to collaborate with ‘On’ and the brand also seemed genuinely interested.

Talking about his partnership with On, Federer remarked: “It’s been a wonderful relationship so far, its great to be a partner with On. The timing is quite ideal for both of us, and I am really enjoying the process so far.” 

After the 2020 Australian Open, Federer was sidelined because of a right knee injury and ultimately announced that he would pull out of the rest of the season. With his Grand Slam record already in threat, the 2021 season poses a tremendous challenge for Federer, who is already in the twilight of his career.
