It’s semifinal time at the French Open 2021 and things are going to go down the wire. First up, we have Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas taking on the German talent Alexander Zverev. It will be their eighth meeting today, and the previous ones have been dominated by the Greek player, winning five out of seven battles.

As we inch closer to this eagerly anticipated encounter, living legend Martina Navratilova spoke on this match and the possible outcome. The American representative picked Stefanos Tsitsipas to overcome the German obstacle and book the first spot in the final. Giving his current form and as history speaks, the path should be easy for the Greek star as compared to Alexander Zverev

The 64-year-old former champion stated, “I think it is the 3 out of 5 sets thing. Also, it’s the pressure of playing in a Major. I’m not sure he has the confidence of being able to sustain it in 3 out of 5 sets and he has not been able to against the top 10 players.

So he really needs to bring his best game, keep aggressive, be positive, and hope for the best. But Tsitsipas is the favorite correctly because he has done it before and he has a better chance to win today.”

Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas have impressed during the clay season

Both players have been in tremendous form during the entire clay-court season. Stefanos won in Monte Carlo and Alexander won in Madrid. At Barcelona, the Greek athlete was locked in a fierce battle against Rafa and although he didn’t end up on the winning side, he sure did impress.

Coming to Zverev and Tsitsipas’ rivalry, they have played on quite a few occasions in the past. However, out of those seven matches, six have been played on the hard courts. They have played on the clay courts in Madrid in 2019, and that battle was won by the Greek star.

As the match begins soon, it will be interesting to see who emerges on top and awaits the winner of the other semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at the French Open 2021.
