Italian tennis player Fabio Fognini recently published his autobiography ‘Warning: My life among the lines.’ In the book, he revealed many things, including his friendship with the Serbian legend Novak Djokovic. Fognini extensively wrote about how difficult it is to face the World no.1 and how Djokovic, despite all the odds, maintains his composure throughout the match.
“Djokovic is tough. When you face him he crushes you. His rhythm is strong that you can’t think,” wrote the 33-year-old Fognini in his book.
The two have faced each other 9 times with Djokovic defeating Fognini on 8 occasions.
Interestingly, they have also played as a pair in doubles. The last time the pair was together, they managed to reach the semi-finals of Indian Wells 2019. In the semis, the pair lost to Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot 6-7, 6-2, and 6-10.
“The fact that Djokovic is not only a player but also a friend makes everything more difficult. My best matches with him are the ones we were side by side in Doubles,” the Italian revealed in his book.
‘He has victory in his eyes’- Fognini on Novak Djokovic
Fognini was all in praise for his teammate, friend, and 17-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. He addressed him as ‘Plastic Man’, a nickname used by many Djokovic fans because of his flexibility and agility. The 33-year-old went a step ahead and wrote that his determination is exemplary and the reason why he is the No.1 player.
“Djokovic, called Plastic man, by many for his ability to bend like he was made out of rubber, he has victory in his eyes and the world n.1 determination,” Fognini wrote.
