“He Did a Mistake”: Diego Schwartzman Unveils Relationship With Daniil Medvedev Ahead of Rolex Paris Masters Clash

It’s time for the quarter-finals of the Rolex Paris Masters 2020. And what would be better than to start the quarters with a match between World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev and World No. 9 Diego Schwartzman. The two players have shared a bitter past since their spat at the ATP Cup 2020. Both exchanged words and haven’t greeted each other politely ever since. Recently, Diego Schwartzman talked about his relationship with Medvedev and about his preparations before the match.

“I think he did a mistake in the ATP Cup and maybe he understood that. We have just a relation between two guys who are playing the tour,” said a modest Diego Schwartzman.

Schwartzman has definitely not forgotten the incident at the ATP Cup and believes that Medvedev committed a huge mistake back then. Although the Argentine player lost that game, he believed that it was Medvedev who lost respect among the fans after what he did. Diego Schwartzman even said that Medvedev was disrespectful, and that he needed to change.

In response to this, Medvedev said that he admitted his mistake when he was wrong, but it was Schwartzman who never apologized to him.

The two players have faced off each other three times with Medvedev winning on all the occasions. Schwartzman will definitely like to win this time and reply with his game. Speaking about his relationship with Medvedev after the incident, the Argentine admitted that they were completely different players.

“We say hello in the morning, good morning, good afternoon, and we practiced for a few times after ATP Cup […]. Not more than that. We are different guys from different parts of the world. We are here with our teams. So our relation, it’s okay,” added the 28-year-old Schwartzman.

Undoubtedly, thing’s have soured between the two players. Both don’t seem to have forgotten and forgiven one another. However, their relationship off the court is another thing altogether and ultimately, it’s the game that will make one win matches. Last time, it was Medvedev who defeated Schwartzman in the quarters of the ATP Cup to enter the semis. This time, the World No .9 will surely look to turn the tables around.
