Toni Nadal recently had an interview with the Blick Newspaper. He was asked many questions and one of those questions was about how much he likes to watch Roger Federer. He replied by saying,

“Even very. Because his aesthetics are great and his technique is almost perfect. He is lucky that he can and does everything very well from scratch. In the past, I preferred to watch him even more than today. Like Rafael, who has improved a lot on serve, Roger switched his game to do more and run less.”

Toni Nadal is right here. The Swiss maestro has made major changes to his game so that he can still play competitively at his age and he has succeeded. But his most effective change was not a change to his game but a change to his racquet back in 2017.

In 2017, Roger Federer increased the size of his racquet and it worked amazingly well. After going many years without winning Grand Slams, he managed to pick up 2 titles that year. And in addition to this, he won another Grand Slam in 2018 at the Australian Open.

Sadly, he has not managed to add to this success but he is definitely going to want to. In this break that he is getting due to the coronavirus pandemic, he is probably trying to make another change to his game. And he is going to hope that it will work now more than ever.

This is because his rival Rafael Nadal is getting dangerously close to beating his Grand Slam record. And he needs to extend his lead over him to win the race to become the GOAT of tennis. Hopefully, he will do just that when the Tour returns in August.
