As the season is nearing its end, the ATP Finals is down to the business end. In the semi-finals, Djokovic takes on Thiem in what looks like a must-see match. After the heroics of Thiem against Rafa, the Austrian really deserves some credit and can finally be considered a real threat.

Speaking on his next opponent, Djokovic said, “Obviously earlier in his career Dominic played his best on clay, but of course being one of the hardest workers on the ATP Tour and most dedicated players, Dominic found his A-game on all other surfaces.”

Novak Djokovic not undermining his opponent

Last year, when both of them played, Dominic got the better of Djokovic. Those thoughts are still looming over the Serb. The fact that Thiem is a Grand Slam winner now gives him extra confidence.

Highlighting this fact, Novak said, “His first [Grand] Slam came on hard courts earlier this year in New York. I played him last year here and lost 7-6 in the third set. It was really a thrilling match. Hopefully, we can have another great match, but hopefully this time with another outcome.”

They’ve enjoyed some great battles in recent years. They last met at the Australian Open final at the beginning of the year. The Serb fought back hard to win his 8th Australian Open title. It’s going to be one hell of a battle as they take on each other in their semi-final contest today.
