Heated Exchange Between Andy Murray and Fabio Fognini Continued in The Locker Room of Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019

After a stormy second-round match at Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019, Andy Murray and Fabio Fognini continued their furious argument in the locker room. According to the publication, ‘The Times’ reports suggest that the ATP men got involved in “another heated verbal exchange” in the Shanghai locker room.

Towards the end of the third set, the players were engaged in a verbal exchange on the court of Qizhong Forest Tennis Centre. Former World Number one, Andy Murray yelled ‘shut up’ at the World Number 12 tennis player, Fabio Fognini.

During the match, Murray addressed the chair umpire, Fergus Murphy, “Fergus, listen what happened. When I had the ball on top of the net he shouted. (turns to Fognini who keeps talking) Shut up!”

Murray moaned that Fognini had ‘called out’ in the midst of a rally, he complained to the chair umpire and he mentioned the Italian tennis player regularly does it, “Fognini does it to everyone,” said Murray.

The Brit was unhappy with the way the match concluded and addressed his disappointed in the post-match press conference. Also, a changeover drama that took place during the final set where Murray played two games to serve for the match.

“I’m very disappointed just now. So I had a volley on top of the net. Someone made a noise. I didn’t know who made the noise. I looked in the direction where the noise came from, he then told me ‘stop looking at me, what are you looking at me for’, and I was like: ‘I was just about to hit a shot and someone made a noise’.”

Fognini won 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(2) in the tirade-encounter second-round in Shanghai and he will be facing the seventh seed Russian, Karen Khachanov in the next round of Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019.
