The person who elevated Cincinnati High School’s program to new heights, Gerry Faust, passed away at the age of 89, leaving behind a remarkable 18-year legacy. He was not only recognized for his contributions to Moeller but also for fulfilling his dream of coaching at Notre Dame. Putting light on Faust’s time at Notre Dame and the journey that led him to his dream position, an insider has compiled all the memories from the past to honor the legendary figure.

Today a fan took to X to share a clip in which a football insider was remembering Gerry Faust’s movie-like journey from Moeller High School to Notre Dame, saying, “In 1977, penning a letter to Notre Dame’s president, saying, Someday I want to coach the Fighting Irish. Three years later, at the age of 46, Notre Dame hired the most decorated high school coach in the country.” Well, you can call it a power of manipulation or luck, but Faust actually lived his dream of coaching the program.

Gerry Faust left the program with a jaw-dropping record of 174-17-2. If he was not the perfect choice for coaching the Notre Dame team, then it’s pretty hard to say who would have done it better than Faust.
