In college football, backup players are like unsung heroes. They grind every day, patiently waiting for their moment in the sun. Take, for instance, the case of Justin Fields, who decided to leave Georgia and join Ohio State, completely altering his story. Julian Lewis, a highly touted talent, may find himself experiencing a similar unexpected turn of events. Remember what Forest Gump’s mom said, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” That’s exactly the situation Julian Lewis finds himself in.

Coach Prime has a tough job on his hands. He needs to keep all his players hungry, even the guys on the bench. It’s a balancing act—keeping the starters sharp while making sure the backups are ready to step up when called upon. Meanwhile, Deion’s future QB, JuJu Lewis got a surprise chocolate, and let’s hope it’s not a licorice truffle!
Well, wasn’t Lewis going to start as a QB1 for the Buffs from his very first season? Even he thought so. With each passing day, a new name is showing up, shattering Lewis’s dreams. Now CFB Host Logan Graffia hit X to send shock waves to him, saying, “If Colorado lands K Salter, they’ll be back in the rankings next year! Salter then handing the keys to Julian Lewis, Coach Prime would have the QB position set up nicely for the Buffalos!” That’s really not good news for Lewis.

A few weeks back, Kaidon Salter made a big move to enter the transfer portal after a disappointing season this year. However, he did show his remarkable gameplay last year; he passed for 2,876 yards with 32 touchdowns and rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 scores. Knowing his passing abilities, he can be a great fit for Deion Sanders’s team, but his name showing up in the already long list of alleged players is only increasing stress for Julian Lewis.
Julian Lewis’ chances of becoming the starting quarterback next year have become more uncertain, with Mikey Keene and Kaidon Salter already in the mix. It’s like a high-stakes chess game, where every decision could determine the success or failure of a potential star. With Coach Prime in control, this quarterback predicament feels like a thrilling suspense story. What twists and turns will come next in this unpredictable saga?

Insiders confirming Julian Lewis QB1 dilemma
Looks like the Buffs’ quarterback dilemma will surely put Julian Lewis in a weird position next year. It’s a well-known fact that Lewis wishes to start playing from his very first season in college football, but that’s not how the dynamics work here. Putting all your faith in a freshman quarterback takes a lot of guts. Even Buffs insider Kevin Borba highlighted the same thing on the Locked on Buffs podcast.

He said, “Every program tells every recruit, ‘Hey dude, next year you’re gonna be playing for us; it’s gonna be great.’ Then, as it gets closer, it’s more like, ‘Hey, next year you’ll have a chance to compete.’ Once they arrive, it shifts to, ‘We don’t owe you anything. We don’t owe you this starting job. You need to earn it.'” But then, being a five-star quarterback with such a high-end high school record of completing 186 out of 280 passes for 3,094 yards with 48 touchdowns, Lewis will surely not want to sit on the sidelines waiting for his turn to come.
Nevertheless, acting as a backup can have its challenges. Just look at Arch Manning. He was playing great before Ewers came back and threw a wrench in his plans. The same was the case with DJ Lagway sitting behind Graham Mertz. Yet, a significant, unavoidable truth is that Matt Rhule’s faith in freshman Dylan Raiola couldn’t save Nebraska’s season. While they had positive moments, even small mistakes drew harsh criticism for both Rhule and Raiola. Now it’s possible Deion Sanders is trying to save Julian Lewis from this misery.
