Daniel Cormier woke up in his room and almost threw his back out in one of the most peculiar ways possible. His back slipped out due to the aftermath of a sneeze! Yes, that’s right, a sneeze!

But the double champ had a back injury and was considering pulling out of the fight due to the severity of that one early morning sneeze.

The UFC sent over medical professionals to his room to assess the situation and provide some treatment, but it seemed to have no immediate impact. After a point, Cormier and his team were seriously considering pulling out of the fight.

However, as the day progressed, the stars seemed to align. Daniel Cormier’s back loosened up. He seemed to get better and was inching closer to being able to contest. The 39-year-old had almost accepted his fate, but things took a surprise turn.

Cormier walked into UFC 230 despite the injury scare and pulled off a victory no one saw coming, especially after his situation that very morning. He successfully defended his title via a 2nd round rear-naked choke finish.

Not only did he overcome that injury and pull off a victory, he also set a record. This victory made Daniel Cormier the first fighter in the history of the promotion to successfully defend titles in two different weight classes.
