Often during a race, team personnel are interviewed mid-race regarding their respective drivers. This time, during the Hungarian Grand Prix, it was Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. At the time, Max Verstappen had already retired from the race. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo was hot on the heels of a struggling Valtteri Bottas.

Suddenly, Ricciardo pulled off one of his signature lunges on the hapless Mercedes. Unfortunately, Bottas understeered wide and clattered Ricciardo who was on the outside. Bottas had already sustained damage from earlier contact with Sebastian Vettel. As a result, he had less drag and was helpless on the track.

As can be seen above, Ricciardo made himself fill Bottas’ mirrors. Then he pulled around the outside for an overtake. However, Bottas locked up and understeered into the side of the Red Bull. Above the excitable shouts from the commentators, you can even hear Horner swearing on live TV.

In the end, Ricciardo managed to recover to finish 4th as Bottas was told to let him past. The Finn in the meantime limped across the finish line in 5th. Ricciardo’s overall run was the stuff of legend. The Australian clawed his way up the order from 14th to 4th.

He had made a bad start and dropped down the order but then the fightback began. He was pulling off divebombs into the first corner like it was nothing. He only faced resistance from Kevin Magnussen. But in the end, he downed the Danish driver.
