Daughter of stakes-winning stallion Hightail, Gin Gin is making headlines for her recent win in Busanda. The 3-year-old filly left the audience in awe with her spectacular performance at Aqueduct. After clinching the stakes last season, the horse racing champ Gin Gin magnificently earned her first stakes win in Busanda in the opening horse racing campaign of 2024.

Bred by Calumet Farm, Gin Gin also secured her 20 qualifying points stunningly toward the Kentucky Derby Oaks (G1). Trevor McCarthy guided Gin Gin to win the stakes in the event, as she began her campaign with a splendid victory in the $97,000 event on January 13. Princess Mayfair, Shimmering Allure, Most of All, and Class Act followed Gin Gin home. Here’s everything you need to know about the horse racing winner champ.

Gin Gin gallops to victory in Busanda

NYRA (New York Thoroughbred Racing) took to its official X handle to cherish the ultimate victory of the Horse racing Champ Gin Gin. Posting the short clip of the eye-catching horse racing at Aqueduct Racetrack, the caption of the post reads, ”Cheers to team GIN GIN!  @trevormmccarthy earns her 20 @KentuckyDerby Oaks points in the Busanda Stakes for @bradcoxracing !”

In the video, the commentator announces, ”Trent McCarthy sees the same, and Gin Gin is fully in pursuit of the runaway leader. Princess Mayfair has got to gut it out, but Gin Gin is right up alongside. Too far back right now, Shimmering Allure most of all is down to these two in a stretch battle. Up for a long left to go, and Gin Gin trying to put it away.”

The 3-year-old filly opened the campaign with an astonishing win and got the lead. Princess Mayfair also tried hard to claim victory in the race, however, she got the second position in the horse racing competition. After finishing Saturday’s 1 1/8-mile test for sophomore fillies, the Calumet homebred completed her run on a muddy course in just 1:53.31.

Trainer Brad H. Cox celebrates the triumph

After watching the dazzling performance by Gin Gin, her trainer Brad H. Cox also admired her. Cox was on cloud nine as Gin Gin handled nine furlongs even in her first attempt at the given distance perfectly. “I was a touch concerned if she would want to go a mile and an eighth and she put my doubts to rest today with her performance,” Cox added. In addition to this, the Gin Gin trainer also complimented the filly’s looks, “She’s a very good-looking filly and has always trained well in the mornings. I’m glad she was able to add a stakes win to her résumé. It’s a big update for her and Calumet,” Cox added further.

Apart from that, Cox also gave the details of Gin Gin’s next target, mentioning that the filly will race in the 1 1/8-mile Gazelle Stakes (G3) at the Big A in early April. Cox is planning to discuss it with Brad Kelley and Eddie Kane from Calumet but indicated that retaining her in New York is a better option presently. Gin Gin’s journey in thoroughbred racing is highly promising, as more victory awaits.
