As compared to the previous years, there are slight modifications towards the build-up. The tournaments played prior to the Australian Open are now going to be held in the city of Melbourne. With the threat of the coronavirus still looming large, it makes sense to avoid travel and to prioritize the major instead.
Usually, players would arrive in Australia in the last week of December. That won’t be the case this season. Players will arrive by the first week of January, preferably by the 8th. Once they would arrive, there would be a mandatory 14-day quarantine period as stated by the Australian Government.

Australian Open: Guidelines for the Bubble
There will be a bubble where the players will reside. Tennis Australia has made it clear that players will be allowed to practice but not be allowed to play any competitive tennis during this duration. Considering that the players will assemble by January 8, this will mean their quarantine period would be over by January 22. This gives a clear indication that this year, the Australian Open should commence from February 1.

It makes sense for players to follow these protocols. To ensure smoothness and avoid any possibility of players contracting the virus such norms should be followed.

Players will have around 8-10 days for preparations. Those participating will need to make some necessary adjustments since the current circumstances call for some compromises. These compromises will be based on the rules the authorities come up with after taking certain factors into consideration to conduct a successful event.
