Post-match, Federer confessed that he recalls the shock defeat that Millman handed him at the US Open 2018 and will be wary of his threat. In fact, Federer revealed that he had a problem remaining conscious after the match.

In their lone grand slam meeting, John Millman stunned Federer at the US Open 2018. This time, Millman will also have the added advantage of being the hometown hero.

However, the Swiss star was all praises for Millman as he commended the Australian for his work ethic while also acknowledging that he remembers the US Open drubbing.

“He’s a great guy, I’ve practised a lot with him. I almost passed out when I played him in New York, it was so hot, but he had no problem, he’s from Queensland. He was like ‘normal stuff’.  He never came to check if I passed out”.

Federer and Millman have faced two more times with the Swiss star coming out on top.

“I’ve played him two other times, once, in Brisbane (2015), I almost lost that one too, and also in Halle (2019).”

“He’s a super good guy, unbelievably tough opponent. There aren’t many as fit as him out there. They’re the guys I respect the most out there because they get the most out of their game. I hope it’s going to be a great match with some great rallies”.

Meanwhile, Federer earned an easy victory in his second-round matchup against Serb Filip Krajinovic by a margin of 6-1,6-4,6-1. Millman also earned an impressive straight-sets victory against the rising Polish star Hubert Hurkacz.
