World No. 5 Elina Svitolina was up against United States of America’s Ann Li in the second round of the French Open 2021, and it was a relatively easy task for the Ukrainian international. The match ended in 74 minutes with a scoreline, 6-0 6-4.

As the match began, Svitolina got off to a positive start. She raced away in the first set and bagelled her opponent. Breaking Li on three occasions during the set, her aggressive style of play forced the American player to commit way too many unforced errors.

Overall, in the first set, the Ukrainian star won 33 points as compared to her opponent’s 18 points.

Elina Svitolina had an easy day at the office

In the second set, there was a twist as Ann Li broke Elina Svitolina in the early stages and raced away to a 3-0 lead. However, in the seventh game of the set, Svitolina stepped up the ante and broke back.

She consolidated the break by holding her serve, and with the momentum on her side, she broke the American again to serve for the match. Forty-four minutes into the set, Elina wrapped up the match in style after fighting her way towards the business end.

During the post-match interview, Elina reflected on the match and spoke on an interesting topic. She was asked about her fiance Gael Monfils and regarding their views on tennis. The Ukrainian international stated, “He always has to agree with me because I’m the boss in the house.”

Both Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina are competing at the French Open 2021 and have been playing their matches on the same day. In the earlier round, Elina was seen sitting in the Frenchman’s camp after her first-round match.

Monfils is scheduled to play his second-round match against Mikael Ymer later today. Being the local hero, there will be a lot of support for Monfils.
