“I Am Very Disappointed That I Will Not See Him” – Former World No.2 on Alexander Zverev

After months of no tennis, some exhibition events were played. The event that is currently being played is the one in Berlin, which features players like Dominic Thiem. However, German star Alexander Zverev pulled out of the event. Tommy Haas recently talked about this.

Alexander Zverev pulling out of the exhibition was surprising as the event was being played in his hometown. Many felt the reason for this withdrawal was the recent controversy he found himself in. After the Adria Tour fiasco, the German vowed to quarantine himself as a precautionary measure. However, just a few days later he was spotted at a party with many people.

In a recent interview with Hamburger Abendblatt (which was translated using Google), Tommy Haas was asked what Zverev should have done instead of pulling out of the exhibition. He replied by saying,

“I will not speak for him, he is old enough and has his advisors. I can say that I am very disappointed that I will not see him.  It is a pity for the tournament and the spectators who are allowed to come. But you have to respect that he prefers to prepare for the new start of the season with his new coach David Ferrer. He should soon let his tennis speak for him again.”

Alexander Zverev has started working with David Ferrer on a trial basis for now. But, we could very well see Ferrer accompanying the German when the ATP Tour restarts after a suspension that has lasted many months.

Zverev will be hoping that this partnership will finally help him break the reign of the ‘Big 3’ by winning his first Grand Slam. And he will have the opportunity to do exactly that when the US Open starts on August 31.
