“I Answer No” – Rafael Nadal Does Not Want Novak Djokovic to Win More Slams

The three-way race between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to be tennis’s all-time leading Grand Slam winner is on and has never been closer. With Djokovic’s latest victory at the Australian Open 2020, Nadal admits that he does not want his arch-rival to win more majors.

The Spaniard currently holds 19 Grand Slam titles, with Djokovic two behind on 17. The two trail behind Roger Federer (20). However, there is still a prolonged contest between the three as the finishing line looks out of sight till now.

“This is the reality of the competition”: Rafael Nadal

Earlier, the Mallorcan had revealed that he was rooting for Dominic Thiem against Djokovic at the Australian Open 2020 finals.

“I have a good relationship with Dominic as I also have with Djokovic,” said Nadal during an interview at the Mexican Open 2020, explaining his comments following the Australian Open final.

“But the reality is that if you ask me if I prefer Djokovic to have more ‘Grand Slam’ than me? Well, I answer no. Therefore, if I have to choose to win one or the other, I choose the other, “ he added.

The Spaniard feels it is a purely professional issue. And he does not hide from saying that because he thinks that if anyone asks Novak who prefers to win Roland Garros, he’ll tell them Dominic.

“This is the reality of the competition and it’s not going against anyone or a strange motive, ” he concluded.

Nadal and Djokovic competing for World No.1

Nadal is also challenging Djokovic for the World No.1 ranking again this week. In order to be back on the top, the two-time champion needs to win the Mexican Open 2020. On the other hand, Djokovic will have to at least qualify for the semi-final of the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships 2020.
