“I Gave A Lot To Davis Cup”- Roger Federer Hits Back at Gerard Pique

World Number three, Roger Federer gave an answer to the questions revolving around his non-participation at the Davis Cup Finals 2019 and the Roger Federer backed event, Laver Cup was also dragged into the debate.

“Davis Cup gave a lot to me and I gave a lot to Davis Cup too, I won’t ever tell anything bad about it, I hope he stays successful, he needs to. Our Laver Cup is three years old, Davis Cup is 120-years old, if they see us as competition, I take it with a smile,” Roger Federer addressed NZZ am Sonntag.

Earlier the Davis Cup’s organizer, Gerard Pique stated, “They have the Laver Cup and can see Davis Cup as a competitor of their competition. I don’t know if one day Federer will play in Davis, but we are happy with all the players that come.”

The Swiss tennis ace, Federer doesn’t really seem to support the revamped version of the historic event and currently is far away from the Davis Cup event in Spain, he is touring around Latin America and playing exhibition matches.

Further, Federer spoke about his thoughts on the tournament director post in ATP. He shows no interest in becoming the tournament director of any ATP tournament. 

“It’s not my intention to take over a ATP Tournament, such a responsibility takes a lot of time, you work a whole year for one week to be perfect. But it‘s true, I‘m very happy for Tommy Haas that his tournament in Indian Wells is such a success and continues to grow,” Federer said.

Presently, Federer is swinging his tennis racquets in Mexico. He will be playing and an exhibition matches against Alexander Zverev. On Thursday, Federer’s exhibition match in Colombia got canceled because of curfew in the city following the recent riots in the town.
