Novak Djokovic has struggled a lot to be in the position where he is today. His career has been filled with setbacks and people telling him that he’s nowhere near the level of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

However, through consistent efforts, he proved everyone wrong. Today, he holds better head to head records against both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Detractors still try to pull him down but only to disappoint themselves.

There can be many breakthrough moments in his career. Perhaps, most of you might name one around the start of the decade where he really found his groove. However, for Novak it’s something a lot earlier.

What is the breakthrough moment of Novak Djokovic? 

Novak’s breakthrough moment came at the Wimbledon of 2005. That’s when he first broke into the top 100 and proved his mettle.

“I think it was probably Wimbledon. It was always a special tournament and it was a dream tournament for me when I was a kid. Always wanting to win Wimbledon. The first top 100 breakthrough that I had was there. I qualified and I think I saved two or three match points in the past round of qualification. One of the main motivations that I had, driving force that I had in that match was my brothers joining me in London. Because if they were to come I had to qualify. And I won three rounds and got to the fourth round at Wimbledon. And qualified for top 100 and that’s where I really felt I have now entered the elite arena of professional tennis.”
