“I Hope Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic Do Not Win Another Title”: Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem clinched his 16th title on ATP Tour at the Vienna Open 2019, last week and became the first player to lift five-titles in the 2019 season, breaking a five-way tie with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Daniil Medvedev.

Talking about winning the most number of titles so far in the 2019 season, Dominic Thiem joked that he hopes that his other fellow mates that are following him in the race of most numbers of titles in the season do not win another title in the remaining two events left on the ATP Tour.

“I hope they (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev) don’t win another one so I stay on top,” Thiem jested in an interview at Tennis Channel with Prakash Amritraj at the ongoing 2019 Rolex Paris Masters.

The Austrian star also talked about what aspects of his game as he continued to improve to reach the highest level.

He continued, “But I think I improved some very important things, my consistency. Also, I think the thing I improved the most is I am playing better on the quicker surfaces, I come in a lot more, I improved my net game and especially that the tennis develops every year, every month.”

Dominic Thiem further explained that he also looked up to the next-generation players as he had to improve his game according to their aggressive game.

“Even it’s very important to look at the young players, they are playing so aggressive, trying to come in a lot. I also had to improve this and I am working on it and it has paid off pretty well,” Thiem concluded.

The 26-year-old battled past Milos Raonic in a thrilling three-setter in his opening match at the Rolex Paris Masters 2019 on Wednesday. The No.5 seed will next face Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 in Paris.
