World No.2 Novak Djokovic blows the gaff on his participation at the Davis Cup 2019 after a grueling season as he admits that he missed the feeling of arraying himself in Serbia’s Davis Cup jersey and represent his nation at the prestigious event with his compatriots.
“Obviously, I’ve had a great experience this year in the Madrid tournament, I like playing here, I like the conditions. I had an hour something of practice, everything went well,” Novak Djokovic said in the pre-tournament press conference on Sunday.
Novak Djokovic, who was the part of the Serbian Davis Cup team in 2010 when they went onto becoming the champions, will be aiming to extend his 12-match winning streak in Davis Cup singles.
While the 32-year-old is making his first appearance at the Davis Cup 2019 since 2017, he is confident about his team performance at the one-week event at the Caja Majica stadium in Madrid.
“Being part of the national team is something that I always valued very much. I have not played for the Serbia national team for several years, so I missed the feeling of being with my friends, with my colleagues and the guys that create a great atmosphere. We’re going to stay hopefully until the end of the tournament and have success,” Novak Djokovic told the reporters.
The 16-time grand slam champion arrived in Madrid following his defeat in the group stage of the last week’s ATP World Tour Finals 2019 in London. He also hit the practice court with his teammates on the Centre Court at Caja Mágica.
Serbia is drawn with France and Japan in Group A of the Davis Cup Finals 2019. Novak Djokovic leads the Serbian squad which includes – Dusan Lajovic, Filip Krajinovic, Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic. Serbia is scheduled to face France and Japan on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
