World No.1 Ashleigh Barty was given a strong test against Karolina Pliskova in the Wimbledon Championships 2021 final. Pliskova in the end lost, but the Center Court crowd gave her a fabulous standing ovation as she was in tears in her on-court interview.

After receiving her runner-up trophy, Pliskova went through to the mic to speak, but the crowd was so loud that she didn’t get a chance to speak. As the crowd settled, Pliskova thanked them but then couldn’t control her tears.

“Thank you so much. Thank you everybody for being here today. I enjoyed every minute to play on this court,” Pliskova said as she got teary. After holding her tears, Pliskova said: “I never cry… And now…”

Karolina Pliskova congratulates Ashleigh Barty on winning Wimbledon
After her battle with tears, Pliskova settled down and thanked Ash Barty for the title triumph and the tough match. It was a gritty match that saw Pliskova make a comeback in the second set to stun Barty and delay her party.
“I think I want to thank with her I think she was playing incredible tournament incredible match today. It wasn’t easy to close the second side I was fighting very hard to make it difficult for her but I think she really played very well so congrats to her and her team,” Pliskova said.

At the start of the match, it looked like Ash Barty would run away with the match. She took a 4-0 lead and looked on to bagel Pliskova. However, Barty was not clinical enough and Pliskova got one break back. Soon both the players would exchange breaks as Barty would finally win the set, 6-3.

The second set is where Pliskova was back. She was firing, however, Barty was just a little more efficient, and she broke Pliskova in the second set. At 6-5, Barty served for the championship, however, she faltered and Pliskova got a lifeline. In the tiebreaker, the Czech player got the initial lead, and she won the second set 7-6(4).

The third set again saw Pliskova play catch up to Ash Barty. The World No.1 broke her initially as both the players looked out for any openings. Serving again for the championship, Barty was down a break point. However, she saved it and finally converted her first match point to become a Wimbledon champion. The scorecard read: 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3.
