“I See You And I Hear You” – Serena Williams Shares Empowering Female Stories

When a woman like Serena Williams achieves success, it’s not just the upliftment of one person. It’s a moment of pride for an entire marginalized community which has been told that it’s not good enough.

Throughout her career, Serena has fought racism, sexism, and obviously tough opponents to become one of the most respected tennis stars out the world has seen. However, Williams has ensured that her success translates into something positive for her community. Take her Serena Ventures for example, which invests in black and minority business enterprises.

In another show of community upliftment on Instagram, Serena shared an interesting challenge. Notably, Williams owns a clothing line called S by Serena. It prides itself on being the brand for the strong, modern woman.

The Instagram challenge was to explain the powerful “S” in your life. That simply means any quality starting with S like strength, sensitivity, etc which has defined your life. The responses were empowering indeed.

What kind of responses did Serena Williams receive?

The responses received were of varying degrees but all of them were extremely positive. One of the respondents talked about being sensitive which is also a quality determined by race.

Strength was the most recurring theme. Considering the current Black Lives Matter protests, strength and solidarity are certainly something which has been the rallying point for African American people. Survivor, serenity, and self-esteem were the other words used.

These included someone who had recovered from cancer, someone who had left behind an abusive relationship, and also someone who refused to adhere to the societal body standards. All these strong people were United under the banner of Serena Williams. If we talk about Serena, many of these words also appropriately describe her.

She reappeared on the tennis scene after post-pregnancy complications. Regardless of that, she continues to amaze us. Most fans know that Serena Williams will win at least one more grand slam before she eventually retires.
