It is generally believed that the veteran guides the novice. However, former World No.1 Naomi Osaka passed on the wisdom to her older version as she jots down a letter to her future self. The Japanese star wrote her thoughts for Nike and preserved what is important for her today well into her future. How does Osaka want to see herself in the future? She explains.

The letter reflected Osaka’s current life as well as her goals set for an ideal future. To everyone’s surprise, the 2-time Grand Slam champion’s goals were not based on tennis but more than it.

“I hope I can somehow inspire people”: Naomi Osaka

The 22-year-old mentioned that she has never written a future letter as she strongly believes in speaking things into existence. However, she aims to preserve her key values and inspire many people in any context. She hopes that the future her has helped as many people as she could and made a positive impact on their lives.

“I hope in the future, I sill retain my core values. No matter what types of trials and tribulations I face, I still remain positive. I hope I can somehow inspire people, I don’t know in what context though yet,” Osaka wrote.

“Funny enough when I first started writing this I thought my brain was immediately going to write about future tennis goals, but I realize it’s much bigger than that,” she added.

Osaka explained that the future is exciting because you never know what’s going to happen. On the other hand, the not knowing part also scares her.

“I used to be extremely scared of the future because not knowing is also scary. But I realize you have to embrace the unknown and you can only control what’s happening now. So the me right now is constantly putting in full thought and effort into all the things I love. I hope the future me is doing the same,” Osaka concluded.

Naomi always desired to achieve work-life balance and she openly shares her experiences with the world. Osaka’s ascent to the top has been sharp and captivating.

She also aims to outperform her own expectations every time she steps on the court. Hence, it’s no surprise she has captivated the masses. However, above all, there is a value in her being more outgoing. And she hopes to remain the same in her future.
