After getting featured on the cover of Rolling Stone, the “Flying Tomato” was over the moon. However, according to White, he wasn’t quite prepared. Moreover, he wasn’t sure how he felt about the photos. And so, he wanted to be fully prepared for the next time they called him.

“I wanted to be on the cover of the Rolling Stones, which had happened after the one Olympics, the first one I went to when I was 19. And my goal was like, ‘If I win again, they might call me and I’ll be ready this time,” said White.

This meant that he would actually have to grab one more Gold medal. White wanted to be on the cover so much that it motivated him greatly to win that Gold.

“And I remember the photos coming out. I was like, “I don’t know how I feel about this,” and I was like, “If it happens again….yeah! This will happen and I’ll do this and this.”

White had all these things in mind, all of which depended on whether or not he won that medal. And he did in style to be on the cover of Rolling Stones again.

Shaun White and his famous pants

Around that time, White revealed he was listening to a lot of Guns N Roses. He saw the lead vocalist Axl Rose perform a concert in tiny American flag shorts. These shorts caught White’s eye. He wanted to wear something similar.

“I was like, “Well I can’t run that, but what if I had pants? “

White went ahead and made the pants. He turned the extremely hard task of winning the Olympics into something “fun and funny”, that is, to be on the cover of Rolling Stones. This not only helped him focus but also not get overburdened by pressure.

“And so, I had these pants made and it became all about like trying to get on the Rolling Stone cover and to wear these pants rather than like winning the Olympics. So it kind of changed the goal to something fun and funny,” revealed Shaun White.
