What Did Roger Federer Say?

Roger Federer was very adamant on the fact that his Australian Open performance was not below par. In fact, it actually exceeded his expectations-

“I thought Australia went actually fairly good. I was lucky to be in Semi Finals at all. Maybe then was maybe a bit unfortunate with my groin, but I feel much better. No worries for Friday. I’ve been resting, rehabbing, now I feel no more pain, also will see how it goes in practice”.

Roger Federer had lost the Australian Open semi finals in straight sets to Novak Djokovic. However, it is tough to clash with Federer on the fact that he surpassed expectations. He was visibally in a lot of pain as his groin troubled him.

This had begun in the quarter finals match itself where he faced Tennys Sandgren. However, the superhuman Swiss star saved seven match points to come back and win the match. Nobody expected a limping Federer to go away with a victory. He was also given a hard time by John Millman in a five set thriller.

Federer’s fitness will also be a major concern ahead of his clash with Nadal. However, the purpose of this particular contest is not to earn ranking points. It will be more of an exhibition. Before their eventual showdown, Federer will team up with Bill Gates and Rafael Nadal with Trevor Noah for a once in a lifetime doubles match!
