“I was So Close at Wimbledon”: Roger Federer Wants Another Grand Slam Title Before Retierement

Twenty times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is still hungry for big titles as he reveals his desire to add another major title or an ATP Finals title in his trophy cabinet before hanging up his racquet.

Earlier, Roger Federer was defeated at the finals of the Wimbledon Championships 2019 by Novak Djokovic after the former squandered two championship points in the deciding set.

Talking about his goal before retiring from professional tennis, Roger Federer said: “One big goal would be to win another Grand Slam or ATP Finals since I was so close at Wimbledon.”

Federer is currently standing second in the list of all-time titles and has seven fewer than Jimmy Connors‘s 109 ATP titles. Talking about winning more titles, Roger Federer said: Quite honestly, 102 tracks feel incredible. I can not believe I’ve won so much. But now every title counts, I still feel wonderful on the tour and enjoy it. I hope I stay healthy so I can do it all.”

The Basel native, who is not traveling with his wife and kids at the ongoing Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 also reveals that he does not really enjoy his free time without his family.

In China, the 38-year-old has some distance with his family but the Swiss maestro suggested that he couldn’t get enough of his family. He said: “I can‘t get enough of my family, I really enjoy being with my family but it‘s true, the routine is different without them.”

However, Roger Federer has taken some time off to interact with his fans on social media. The 20-time Grand Slam champion explained, “I‘m very active on social media, especially on Twitter, I enjoy the interaction with the fans. I have it funny and answer the fans. This will certainly continue this week, I hope I’m still a long time in the Shanghai Masters.”

Roger Federer also revealed that he traveled a lot with his wife and four children, last year and therefore he and Mirka decided that their homeschooled children should stay at home for a longer time and they should travel less for some time.

He said: “We were in New York, Chicago, Tokyo, Shanghai. Then it went like this: the end of the year in Dubai, Australia, Indian Wells, and Miami. So we decided some time ago that children should be at home for a longer time.”

Roger Federer cruised past Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 after receiving a buy in the first round. He will face the no.13 seed David Goffin in the round of 16 of the penultimate masters 1000 tournament on Thursday.
