Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov was involved in a high-intensity match against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open 2022. It lived up to its expectations and fans got their ticket money’s worth.

However, there was an instance in the match when both players were involved in an exchange. During the fourth set, Nadal took a bathroom break which angered the Canadian player.

Denis Shapovalov is unhappy with the treatment he received
The reason for Shapovalov fuming was because during the tournament last year, he was disallowed from taking a break under similar circumstances. Therefore, he pointed it out to the chair umpire.

After the match, during the press conference, Denis spoke on this subject and expressed his sheer disappointment. The 22-year-old player stated, “And then after the fourth set, I mean, the guy goes — and for the same thing last year I wasn’t allowed to take a toilet break when I asked for a medical. He had already taken two medicals.”

Reflecting on the match, Nadal got off to a great start and displayed a clinical performance initially by winning the opening two sets. After that, he was not looking his usual self and Denis seized his opportunity and won the next two sets.

The Spaniard showed his composure and experience which helped him seal the set and win the match eventually. Nadal now awaits the winner of the match between Gael Monfils and Matteo Berrettini.
In the other half of the draw, Daniil Medvedev is facing Felix Auger Aliassime in one quarterfinal, and in the other quarterfinal, Stefanos Tsitsipas will be up against Jannik Sinner.
