“Honestly, I wasn’t ready for it. I knew it was going to come at some point, but, you know, I have been on tour with them our whole lives. It’s always sad to see another one go,” remarked Williams during the post-match interview after her third-round victory.

The six-time US Open champion added that the retirement of Bryan Brothers has moved her closer to the retirement stage, although she’s trying to avoid it. The Bryan Brothers made their debut in 1995 and interestingly Serena also made her debut the same year at the age of 14.

“It’s, like, okay, it moves me even closer to the line, and I’m trying to avoid the line (smiling),” added Williams who is eyeing a record 24th grand slam title at the US Open 2020.
