BJ Penn has had an illustrious run in the UFC and now it’s time for him to hang his gloves.
BJ Penn’s run in the UFC is nothing short of world-class. Penn has etched a legacy for himself with a record of 16-14-2 MMA, 12-13-2 UFC. He has also been inducted into the hall of fame as he became the first fighter ever to win two titles in two different weight classes. But this past decade hasn’t been so kind on the former welterweight and lightweight champion.
Penn has struggled in the cage. His last victory came back in 2010 against Matt Hughes at UFC 123. And since he hasn’t managed to get a win. He’s on a record number of losses. Tallying at 7 losses consecutively, his downward skid is the longest in the promotion’s history.

Penn speaking about his plans of retiring said, “It takes a lot of work. takes too much. Too much (expletive) work. At this age, it just takes too much (expletive) work. You never know what’s going to happen, but it takes so much work.” There are so many people telling me to fight again,” Penn said. “Other people telling me don’t fight again. It’s a lot to take in.”

BJ Penn loves it inside the ring
Penn has already retired and returned twice in the past. He clearly can’t keep away from the sport. He says it’s the only thing that brings him true happiness. BJ Penn said, “If I can get anything else going it would be nice. If I could get anything else going in life than just a fistfight, it would be nice. But it’s so fun and I love the process and all those things about it. Then you get in the gym and start doing good with active fighters and next thing you know you’re trying to fight and biting off more than you can chew. You might be, you might not be. But the process itself it’s a lot to just do a camp or whatever.”
Penn says he’s had his time. He’s seen glory days. But now, his time today goodbye is here. Penn said,” I guess when you have something to prove that’s when you can fight the best. It’s like, ‘Hey man, you already proved yourself.’ It’s not about proving myself, I just really like doing this. But you can’t go out and keep getting hurt. That just doesn’t make sense to anybody.”
