Though Gaethje had the upper hand through most of the fight, the end of the second round saw him almost get knocked out. In an exchange of uppercuts, Gaethje, unfortunately, ate the heavier one and was almost floored. But the bell came to his rescue, and the round ended right there.
Justin Gaethje says he was entirely there
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Justin Gaethje discussed the incident. He said, “Yeah, that’s the one time Justin came out. I’m so good at it. What people haven’t understood or maybe they have, is y ability to manage time as far as seconds. You that clapper I know exactly when and how long 10 seconds is internally. I have worked on that my whole life. And it happens to be something I can use now.”

Gaethje said, “I’m always gonna pop-off in the last 2 seconds. Everything you’ve seen me do crazy is in the last 2 seconds because its low-risk high reward. If I do end up in a compromisable position, the bell rings. But yeah, he hit me, and I was all there. If there was any time left, I was all there.”
So Justin Gaethje says though the uppercut struck him well, he was entirely present. He could have continued fighting If the round hadn’t ended. He could have definitely gone on.
