Stan Wawrinka looks in brilliant touch following his recent 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Dominik Koepfer in the second round of the French Open 2020. Earlier in the first round, the Swiss had steamrolled three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray in straight sets. After two phenomenal performances, the 35-year-old Wawrinka spoke at length about his current form.

“My conclusion, that I’m ready. I’m playing well. I’m moving well. I’m feeling good on the court. That’s it. It’s a Grand Slam. It can be long for two weeks. It’s match after match. You need to stay into it,” said a cheerful Wawrinka.

Wawrinka revealed how he spent his time in the long-break and how it helped him regain his form.

“Most of the time I was there in Switzerland to spend a lot of time with my daughter. I took the lockdown in the right way. In Switzerland, we could still go out, be able to spend time with my daughter. Also, it was a great time for that,” said Wawrinka.

Wawrinka did not play at the US Open 2020 and was eliminated in Round 1 of the Italian Open 2020. Some experts had even said that it was over for him. However, Wawrinka believes that he has already had a great career and considers himself a lucky man.

“I’m a lucky person. I have a good life. I had a great career already. When you see what’s happening around the world (coronavirus pandemic), like, I really can’t complain about my situation,” concluded the 35-year-old Swiss.

Stan Wawrinka will next face the Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the third round of the French Open 2020. With his good form, can he repeat the miracle of 2015 and win yet another French Open title?
