Serena Williams is an absolute icon of modern tennis. One of the key people in her journey besides her father has been her mother, Oracene Price. She was not a coach in a traditional manner. However, she did learn tennis on her own to help make her daughters learn the key aspects of the sport.

Recently, Serena Williams spoke about her mother’s contribution towards her becoming such a successful individual. She even mentioned not being able to take on the responsibilities that her mother did during her childhood.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner stated, “My dad at one point was working and then, he stopped,” she says. “He’s like, ‘This is what we’re going to do. I’m not going to have a job. I’m gonna go with Venus and Serena, and train them every day.’ Now that would be impossible for me if my husband [Alexis Ohanian] were to tell me that.”

Serena Williams and sister Venus were amazed by the movie 

Recently, the premier of the movie King Richard took place. In it, Hollywood star Will Smith is playing the role of Richard Williams. Aunjanue Ellis is playing the role of Serena’s mother, Oracene Price. Serena and Venus were amazed after watching the movie for the first time.

Aunjanue also mentioned that Oracene is someone who doesn’t get enough credit when discussing the story of the Williams sisters. Credit which the 69-year-old certainly deserves.

Coming to tennis, Serena has not featured in any event since the Wimbledon exit. She had to withdraw from her opening round match due to an injury she suffered during the first set. She then skipped the US Open due to a hamstring injury. 

The 40-year-old intends to come back stronger in the next season. It will be interesting to see if she can win her 24th Grand Slam title in the upcoming season. All eyes will be on her when she steps on the courts again.
