On the eve of Christmas where the rest of the world busy celebrating the occasion the Spanish tennis player Fernando Verdasco engages in something adventurous. As part of his resistance training, the 36-year-old tennis professional Verdasco tows an SUV which weighs about 4500 pounds. He has a belt around his waist that is tacked firmly to the big car and he single-handed drags it with his own body weight.

Verdasco’s 2019 season

World Number 50 Fernando Verdasco reached the quarterfinals at Rome Masters 2019 and lost to the eventual champion and compatriot Rafael Nadal. Later at Wimbledon 2019 he made it to the fourth round and surrendered to the Belgian David Goffin. He concluded his season at Rolex Paris Masters 2019 after losing to Alexander Zverev in the second round.

This season Verdasco was disappointed with Spain’s Davis Cup captain Sergi Bruguera as the two-time French Open champion refused to name Fernando Verdasco in the team to contest at the revamped Davis Cup Finals 2019 in Madrid.

Highlights of Verdasco’s Career

At Australian Open 2016, Verdasco defeated the then-World Number five Rafael Nadal in the first round in five sets. He pulled off the third win against compatriot Nadal and he became the second player to knocked down the Spaniard ace in the opening round of a Grand Slam.

In 2009, both the Spanish warriors Verdasco and Nadal played a marathon match at the Melbourne major semifinals. Verdasco holds high esteem in the tennis world for playing the greatest Grand Slam semifinals of all times at Aussie Open 2009 against Rafael Nadal.

It is the best major performance in his career and the match concluded in 5 hours, 14 minutes with Verdasco losing to the ultimate champion, Nadal in the last four round.

Former World Number seven Verdasco defeated the number one seed Novak Djokovic to reach his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 final in Monte-Carlo. He set up an encounter with five-time defending champion Rafael Nadal. It was the first all-Spanish final of a Masters 1000 event since Monte Carlo in 2002 and Verdasco lost in lop-sided final.

Also, Fernando Verdasco is one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour by dwelling in the top-100 rankings bracket for more than 700 consecutive weeks i.e., 15 consecutive years.
