Inderjeet singh, Jinson Johnson clinches Gold in Asian Athletics Grand Prix

Asian championships Gold medalist Shotputter Inderjeet Singh & 800m runner Jinson Johnson bagged gold medal each on Monday in Asian athletics Grand Prix which is being held in Bangkok, Thailand. Indian athletes won a total of 8 medals at first leg of the championship on Monday.

Shotputter Inderjeet Singh’s good run continues here as he won gold with a throw of 19.83m in final. China’s Wang Guangfu won silver with an effort of  18.82m, followed by another Chinese Guo Yangxiang who put forth a distance of 18.79m. This is 2nd gold medal in June for the Haryana based shotputter, he earlier won gold in Asian championships held in Wuhan, China. Inderjeet Singh has already qualified for Rio Olympics.

Jinson Johnson clinched Gold in 800m category. He clocked 1:48:52 to finish first in the race. In women’s 800m M. Gomathi won bronze with a timing of 2:07:48 .

Ankit Sharma won silver in men’s long jump with an effort of 7.78m. In 400m race, Rajiv Arokya & M R Poovramma bagged bronze each in men’s & women’s category with timings of 46:86 secs & 53:51 secs, respectively.

Srabani Nanda & Gayathry Govindraj  won bronze each  in 100m women’s dash & 100m hurdle with timings of 11:58 secs & 13:72 secs, respectively.

It other events, N V Sheena finished 7th in triple jump with an effort of 12:22m, while 2014 IAAF World Junior Bronze Medalist in discus throw Navjeet kaur disappointed as she finished fifth with an effort of 52:04m.

In men’s javelin throw, Davinder Singh put forth a distance of 69:58m to finish sixth while Countrymen Rajinder Singh hurt himself in the third throw, he was rushed to hospital by the team management. He managed a throw of 70.58m in his 2nd throw before getting injured.

It was disappointment in 4x100m relays, as both men & women’s teams as both could not able to finish their race due to overshooting the baton exchange.

Second & Third leg of the series will be held on 25th and 29th June at Pathumthani &  Chanthaburi(both in Thailand).
